I’m not a naturally patient person. I like to be in motion. I like a plan and I like to be moving. I like to see where we are going and then step into it. If I had to choose the time it took from dreaming to planning to executing would be as short as possible. I get joy out of seeing new things happen and observe people step into their next quickly. I love results, I am challenged at times with the process, especially if the process is slowed up when it doesn’t need to.
When we moved to Las Vegas, we initially lived in a short term rental house. Our goal was to move to Vegas, find a house, purchase it, move our things from Nebraska and move in before summer camp season started in mid June. Things seemed to be going great, we moved to Vegas, looked at houses and secured a purchase agreement (For the second time in a row, Kris didn’t see the house before we bought it – another lesson for another day). We were blown away by the generosity God was giving us because we had an opportunity to assume the loan of the seller – locking in 2.5% interest rate and all we had to do was come up with the money that was the difference between what the seller still owed on the mortgage and the purchase agreement AND be approved by the sellers loan company. We started the incredible opportunity with a purchase agreement that was dated April 17, 2023. We were supposed to close and move in on May 25, 2023. As the days got closer and closer, we started to feel that this may not be as simple as we thought. The seller’s broker stopped replying, the seller’s mortgage company wouldn’t talk to us. Finally in mid May we all agreed to rent from the seller for 30 days as the process finished up. Sometime in June we discovered that the mortgage company lost our information and we would have to start over. In July we learned that they had forgotten to give us an additional set of paperwork that had to be filled out. In August they had said we missed an important deadline. In September everything should be approved at any moment. In October, after the seller hired an attorney, movement started to happen. The first week of November, we were notified that we had 7 days to close or we would have to start the whole process over. The day before the deadline we were told that the seller who lived in TN had to sign the document and for it to be filed the next day in Vegas. For a couple of hours, we were looking at purchasing a plane ticket, flying across the country and returning so that the sale would go through. Fortunately after 7 months of navigating numerous conversations with the lender, our realtor, the seller, we were able to close on our house.
After all of the inconvenience and time we are grateful to have the house that we have. We love the space, the outside is incredible and the location works well for us. The process was worth the wait.
Many times when we go through life, there are things that take time, that don’t go the way we would want, and are not on the same timeframe as we would prefer. Sometimes it can be challenging to be patient, to trust the process, to be willing to replace frustration with hope. Over the last year, we have had a number of different things that didn’t go as fast as we wanted or the way we wanted AND we have experienced where it has been worth the wait in trusting the process and thinking the best of people. Now we are looking at the next year and are curious about what will be worth the wait in this next season.
