Luke 19:41 has always been a defining verse to my understanding of Jesus and what He cares about. “As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it.” I love how this verse shows Jesus’s heart for Jerusalem, a city and a people that He loved. Jesus’ heart was broken for people, not for them to do good things, but for them to find peace in their hearts, in their lives. Jesus knew that the people had been hurt by centuries of captivity, poor leadership, and betrayal, but He also knew that the only thing that could bring them peace was a relationship with Him. His heart broke for these people, desiring them to experience true peace in a relationship with Him. By understanding Jesus’ heart for people, I am learning what can and should break my heart for people.
What breaks your heart? What, when you experience or see it, crushes your spirit enough that it spurs you into action? When you discover what breaks your heart you will find what drives you, what inspires you, and maybe even what you were made for. Lean in. It’s ok for your heart to break.
