Transition Part 1– Finish Where You Are At

Over the past months I have had the gift of renovating our house.  We have put in windows and doors, painted walls and trim, completely remade bathrooms and replaced flooring.  We had a lot of projects going on at once and my to do list was rather long. What I learned was that I had to finish the project I was on or annoyingly that project would never get done.  Let me give you an example.  In November and December we put in new windows and we decided to put new trim in and I got it in, but I didn’t finish puttying and painting it.  Four months later, the week before we put our house on the market, the trim had not been puttied or painted and it was frustrating, costly, and time consuming to have to go back and finish the project.

As we are getting ready to transition 1800 miles across the United States, we are discovering a more important Truth about finishing where we are at.  We are realizing that there are people we want to say good-bye to, to communicate with, and finish some things that have not been finished.  As we transition we have a new found value in what God values most – people.  We have made many amazing friendships that we will have for the rest of our lives.  We know that there are people we want to value as God values them and we don’t want to leave without finishing everything that Jesus has offered to us.  Unfortunately we do not have time to connect one to one with everyone that we would like to, so one of the things that we are doing is hosting a gathering Friday night at Firebrook’s clubhouse from 6:00 – 9:00 for anyone who would like to come and say good bye or to reconnect, or to finish, or to begin.  We hope to see many of our Kentucky friends there.  Our intention for the gathering is to remember, laugh, and give opportunities for us and maybe others a chance to finish this season well and begin the next with strength.

I encourage you as you go through life transitions to finish where you are at.  Whether that is a class in school, a job that is challenging, an athletic team, an agreement, or most importantly anything connected to a relationship, I invite you to finish the opportunity, don’t avoid it, don’t say someday I will finish it.   Jesus has so much planned for my life, your life and wants us to be free to live our lives to the fullest and that happens best when we completely finish what He gave us to do!  Let John 10:10 be something that comes alive in you.
