My family and I have lived through some good days lately. Good days of family. Good days of laughing. Good days of hearing God’s voice in great ways.
The biggest danger of living in good days isn’t the fear you will have bad days, but that you will settle for the good and forget the promise and potential of better days.
In Joshua 24, Joshua gives his last words to his people to give them the tools to live a better life. He pulls his people together and tells them three things so that they can live out the better life God has for them.
First, Joshua invites them to choose who they will live for – will it be God or will it be for other gods, preferences, desires, etc… Each day to live the better life I get to choose, you get to choose who you will live for – will it be for God and His plans or will something else drive your life.
Second Joshua tells his people to destroy the idols of the past so that the people wouldn’t be tempted to go back. Destroying the idols of preference, bad habits, offense, pride, insecurity is something that must be done before the door to better days is unlocked. By destroying the idols of yesterday and today, we can step into the potential of the better days of tomorrow.
Finally Joshua tells his people to turn to God. I really believe that the better days can only be found when we intentionally stop what we do and actively turn to God. When we turn to God and grow closer to Him, He has the ability to tell us who we are and give us direction to the better days.
So don’t settle for the good days, fight for the better days, by daily choosing who will lead you life, get rid of the idols that are preventing you from being who you were made fore, and turn to God for the big and the small.
Better days are ahead – if you choose to pursue them.
